Why Classical Dressage?

Classical riding is the art of riding in harmony with, rather than against, the horse.

Classical French Dressage (The Philosophy of Lightness) is the foundation for all modern disciplines including Modern Dressage and evolved from cavalry movements and training on the battlefield.

Dressage was invented for the horse and is a series of exercises that build on each other resulting in Collection. Collection is a state of being and movement where the horse is so well balanced and educated that he becomes liberated from the weight of the rider and is able to move as though he is free. In this state he is calm, obedient to the aids and moves without resistance in mind and body.

Classical riding is therefore the art of riding in harmony with, rather than against, the horse.

“For what a horse does under constraint, he does without understanding, and with no more grace than a dancer would show if he was whipped and goaded.“
~Xenophon

VISION & VALUES

Inspiring people to love life, be creative and have fun whilst setting higher standards for themselves and their horses. Riding is an Art form, Philosophy & University of Life. The Education of riders from the level of Squire (beginner) to Knight/Master Horseman (Advanced) in the classical principles from the ground and in the saddle is crucial to ensure happy, healthy, sound horses that wish to accept training, connect and communicate with their riders.

Accomplishing training with Ease and Grace is done by focusing on peace, compassion, pedagogics, clarity, firmness, kindness and the acknowledgement that all difficulties stem from a lack of balance or a lack of understanding or both. Each must be addressed before Harmony and a higher level of performance can blossom.
“The goal is the journey. The journey is Light, Lighter, Lightest!”
